On May 17th, 2025, the Cooray Grounds in Wellawatta burst into life with vibrant color, tradition, and youthful energy as AIESEC in the University of Colombo hosted Avurudu with CC 2025 – a celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year like no other.
With alumni, current AIESECers, and cherished partners all coming together, the event beautifully blended Sri Lankan heritage with the signature dynamism of youth leadership. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter, movement, and meaningful connection.

From traditional rituals to uniquely designed games, Avurudu with CC was a showcase of how the old and the new can blend to form something truly memorable. AIESEC’s energy was evident in every detail, making this more than just a New Year celebration — it was a platform for unity, leadership, and legacy.
Attendees experienced traditional Avurudu games, reimagined with a fun Gen Z twist. From the suspense-filled Kana Mutti challenge to the tricky Keeping Eye task, each game sparked laughter and friendly competition.
Crowd favorites like Best Laugh and Best Cry contests gave participants a chance to show off their flair, while the highly anticipated Avurudu Kumara & Kumari titles were awarded to two outstanding individuals who embodied tradition, personality, and AIESEC charisma.
🍛 Food That Felt Like Home
No Avurudu celebration is complete without a feast, and this year’s traditional food corner did not disappoint. Guests enjoyed a mouth-watering spread of kiribath, kokis, kawum, athirasa, and more — served warm, with a side of nostalgia. Whether reconnecting with old friends or meeting new faces, this corner became a space of sharing and togetherness.
