The sun shone brightly over the shores of Hikkaduwa on May 3rd, 2025, as over 75 enthusiastic delegates gathered for a day of tradition, unity, and pure excitement at South Fest 4.0. Hosted by AIESEC in Ruhuna at the picturesque AVENRA Beach Hotel, this event not only honored the vibrant spirit of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year but also celebrated the energy, connection, and community that AIESEC represents.
Following the immense success of South Fest 3.0, South Fest 4.0 was bigger, bolder, and brimming with cultural zest. From traditional games to dynamic performances, every moment was packed with fun, laughter, and a deep sense of belonging.
The Festivities Begin: Opening Ceremony & Traditions

The event kicked off with a warm welcome ceremony featuring the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolizing the start of new beginnings. The iconic milk spillage ceremony followed, an age-old ritual that brought luck and prosperity to all attendees. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the delegates prepared for a day filled with unforgettable experiences.
A Day of Fun & Games: South Fest’s Best Moments
As the day unfolded, the delegates dove into a series of lively traditional games, each designed to create friendly competition and strengthen bonds. The much-anticipated Breaking the Pot event, where participants blindfolded had to smash a pot, was a crowd favorite, with bursts of laughter and playful chaos in every round.
Next up, the Water Balloon Passing and Musical Hats kept the energy high, bringing out the playful spirit in everyone. But perhaps the most fun was the Balloon Dance, where participants had to move and groove while keeping a balloon between them – a hilarious challenge that left everyone in fits of laughter.
The Honeybee Game, a test of speed and agility, was another highlight, as delegates raced against each other in a blur of motion, all while keeping true to the theme of teamwork and celebration.

Crowning the New Year Prince & Princess
No Avurudu celebration would be complete without the crowning of the Avurudu Kumara and Avurudu Kumariya. The ceremony, which saw delegates decked out in traditional attire, was a colorful and lively tribute to the essence of Sri Lankan New Year celebrations. The atmosphere was filled with pride as the winners of the games were recognized and celebrated.

A Day to Remember: Memories that Last
The success of South Fest 4.0 wasn’t just in the games or the performances—it was in the connections made and the memories created. The event beautifully showcased AIESEC in Ruhuna’s mission to bring young people together, bridging cultures and creating a community that celebrates both tradition and unity.
As the day came to an end, the delegates left with not just prizes but with a renewed sense of belonging, excited to carry forward the spirit of South Fest into their lives and future AIESEC endeavors.
