The 10th International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences at University of Colombo

The Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, hosted the 10th International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (IConArts) on 21st November 2024, under the theme Building a Sustainable and Resilient Future through Humanities and Social Sciences. The conference was held at Conference Room 128, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

IConArts has established itself as an important platform for scholars in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences to exchange ideas, present their research, and collaborate on innovative solutions for global challenges. This year’s conference focused on fostering interdisciplinary research and innovation, encouraging scholars to transcend conventional disciplinary boundaries and explore the intersections of knowledge. The event aimed to create a dynamic, inclusive environment where researchers could inspire each other, collaborate, and contribute to transformative scholarship.

The event was graced by a distinguished lineup of speakers and academic leaders. Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Emeritus Professor Nihal Perera from Ball State University, USA, delivered the keynote address, offering valuable insights into the role of Humanities and Social Sciences in shaping sustainable and resilient futures.

Senior Professor (Chair) Lasantha Manawadu, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, and the Co-Chairpersons, Dr. Ananda Y. Karunarathne and Ms. Nethra Senadhi, provided valuable support in organizing and guiding the proceedings. Dr. Avanka Fernando, the conference secretary, coordinated the event’s logistics, ensuring its smooth execution.

The conference highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing complex global issues and generating solutions that can lead to a more sustainable and resilient future. Scholars from diverse backgrounds participated in the event, exchanging ideas, presenting their research findings, and engaging in meaningful discussions.

As IConArts 2024 concluded, it reinforced its mission to foster intellectual exchange, drive transformative scholarship, and inspire meaningful advancements in the Humanities and Social Sciences for a better tomorrow.
