Minister of Education Issues Gazette Notifications for University Reforms

The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Harini Amarasuriya has issued three key gazettes on Friday, November 29, 2024, introducing significant amendments to the academic structures of the Eastern University, Sri Palee Campus of the University of Colombo, and the University of Moratuwa.

1. Expansion at Eastern University, Sri Lanka

The Faculty of Commerce and Management at the Eastern University has been updated with the inclusion of a new department.

  • New Addition:
    • Department of Accounting and Finance

This addition aims to enhance the academic offerings in financial education at the university.

2. Structural Revisions at Sri Palee Campus, University of Colomb

The faculty and departmental structure of the Sri Palee Campus has been reorganized to better reflect the needs of modern education.

  • Revised Faculty and Departments:
    • Faculty of Mass Media
      • Department of Mass Media
      • Department of Languages
      • Department of Computer Studies
      • Department of Performing Arts

The revised structure aligns the campus with its vision of offering comprehensive education in arts and communication.

3. Update at University of Moratuwa

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Moratuwa has renamed one of its departments to better reflect its academic focus.

  • Renamed Department:
    • From: Department of Community Medicine and Family Medicine
    • To: Department of Public Health and Family Medicine

This change emphasizes the department’s commitment to public health and family medicine, aligning with contemporary healthcare needs.
