Strengthening Sustainability Through Collaboration: A Memorandum of Understanding Between Dilmah One Earth Centre and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura
The Department of Urban Bioresources, Faculty of Urban and Aquatic Bioresources, is dedicated to fostering partnerships with state and industry institutions to promote teaching, research, and entrepreneurial initiatives that advance bioeconomy development. The department aims to collaborate with international institutes to create sustainable technologies for bioresource management.
One such partnership is the collaboration between the Dilmah One Earth Centre, Moratuwa, and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The Dilmah One Earth Centre is an outstanding initiative by Dilmah Conservation, designed to educate the public and promote environmental sustainability in urban settings. It provides a platform for students to learn about the aesthetic and functional value of nature, instilling a sense of responsibility toward environmental conservation.
This collaboration seeks to promote the sustainable use of natural resources, aiming for a productive and sustainable outcome through joint efforts. It also highlights the importance of social engagement, as both institutions work together to create valuable experiences for the community and foster shared visions of sustainability.
A significant milestone in this partnership was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Dilmah One Earth Centre and the Department of Urban Bioresources, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The event was graced by Mr. Dilhan Fernando, Chairman of Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC, Snr. Prof. Pathmalal Manage, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Snr. Prof. Pradeep Jayaweera, Dean of the Faculty of Urban and Aquatic Bioresources, and other esteemed faculty members and managers from both institutions. This collaboration is expected to pave the way for future cooperation and drive sustainable resource utilization practices.
