The University of Colombo Library has taken a groundbreaking stride in redefining academic engagement with the launch of its flagship initiative Colombo Discourses 2025 held on October 16, 2025.
The inaugural session, themed “Talk to an Expert,” featured an insightful discourse by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo. The event brought together academics, students, and professionals, fostering a dynamic platform for dialogue, critical thinking, and knowledge exchange.
Through Colombo Discourses 2025, the Library aims to cultivate a culture of inquiry and continuous learning, encouraging participants to explore diverse perspectives and engage in conversations that extend beyond the traditional classroom. This initiative transforms the Library into a “living classroom” evolving from a mere repository of books into a vibrant hub of creativity, collaboration, and intellectual growth.
Organized in parallel with the Reading Month 2025 celebrations, the programme was coordinated by Ms. S. M. Adhikari, Senior Assistant Librarian (Reader Services), alongside the dedicated Library staff.
With this visionary effort, the University Library reaffirms its role as a catalyst for scholarly engagement and a key contributor to shaping a future-ready academic community.
