The Faculty of Dental Sciences at the University of Peradeniya held a successful inauguration ceremony for its 2023/2024 intake on January 6, 2025, at the esteemed Professor S.B. Dissanayake Auditorium (CPC).
The event was honored by the presence of Prof. Terrence Madhujith, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, who served as the Chief Guest. Newly admitted students, accompanied by their parents, participated in this momentous occasion, marking the beginning of their academic journey. Prof. B.M.H.S.K. Banneheka, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, along with other academic staff and officials from the University, including the deans of all eight faculties, attended the event, highlighting its significance.
The ceremony began with a heartfelt welcome address by Prof. B.M.H.S.K. Banneheka, who offered an insightful overview of the faculty’s academic programs, its crucial role in healthcare education, and the many opportunities awaiting the students. This was followed by an inspiring speech from Prof. B.G.T.L. Nandasena, Chairperson of the Students’ Welfare & Advisory Committee (SWAC), who emphasized the committee’s mission to support the holistic development of students. She shared that the University of Peradeniya is dedicated to fostering an environment conducive to learning, personal growth, and a sense of belonging, with a range of programs and services aimed at enhancing student well-being.
Adding a cultural touch to the proceedings, senior students presented a captivating traditional dance and song, showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. This performance brought an extra layer of vibrancy and festivity to the occasion.
The ceremony not only marked an important milestone for the incoming students but also set an optimistic tone for their academic and professional development in the field of dental sciences. It was a welcoming introduction to their journey in dental education and healthcare.
Following the formal proceedings, Dr. Ashwini Amarasinghe from the Faculty of Science delivered a motivational speech to the new students, while Prof. Dileep de Silva conducted an informative session for the parents, ensuring they were well-informed and involved in their children’s academic journey.
