University of Colombo Researchers Honored at National SLCARP Awards
The National Awards for Excellence in Agricultural Research for the years 2023 and 2025, organized by the Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (SLCARP), took place on 23rd October 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.
The ceremony was held under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency Mr. Aruna Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
Showcasing exceptional scientific achievement, four esteemed academics representing the University of Colombo were recognized with National SLCARP Awards for their significant contributions to agricultural research:
- Prof. Ranjith Mahanama – Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science
- Prof. Chandrika Nanayakkara – Department of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Science
- Prof. Jagathpriya Weerasena – Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB)
- Prof. Kanchana Abeysekera – Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Technology
Their impactful research continues to strengthen national progress in agriculture and elevates the University of Colombo’s reputation as a leader in scientific innovation and sustainable development.
