The morning mist over Kandy has a way of softening the world, casting a venerable glow over the quiet ripples of the lake. It was in this ethereal light, standing before the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, that the first chapter of Captures’26 began to unfold. A diverse assembly of visionaries gathered on the 8th of April 2026, their lenses ready to capture the essence of a city where heritage is not merely preserved in its unique architecture but lived in every passing second.
The journey was guided by the masterful hand of Mr. Ravi Ranasinghe, whose expertise was infused with his immersive approach to teaching. Alongside our esteemed Guest of Honour, Mr. Chandana Mallawarachchi, the session transformed from a simple lesson into a shared journey. Mr. Ranasinghe did not remain a distant mentor. Instead, he became one with the group, his own camera clicking in rhythm with the participants as they explored the Kandy Lake Round and the bustling streets beyond.

As the morning progressed, the group moved toward the heart of the city, pausing within the vibrant shadows of the underground passages where colorful murals provided a modern contrast to the ancient surroundings. However, it was upon entering the Kandy Market that the true soul of the workshop was revealed. The market is a living tapestry of human expression, a place where the chaotic energy of daily life offers a raw and beautiful canvas for the artistic eye. Within those walls, the participants found poetry in the mundane the focused gaze of a vendor, the blur of a moving crowd, and the rich textures of the vegetable stalls. Every frame captured was a depiction of the unfiltered spirit of the hill capital.

The day eventually transitioned into a sophisticated evening of reflection at the PGIHS of the University of Peradeniya. There, Mr. Ranasinghe shared the technical nuances of his work, illustrating the ethical and artistic depths of street photography through his own global experiences. It was a moment of profound connection, where the frantic energy of the morning photowalk was refined into lasting wisdom and creative inspiration.

While the echoes of the Kandy streets still linger in our minds, a new horizon awaits. We invite you to trade the urban rhythm for the untamed whispers of the wild. Our journey continues with a dedicated workshop on Nature and Wildlife Photography on the 26th of April 2026. This experience is offered completely free of charge, providing a unique opportunity to explore the majesty of the natural world through your own lens. We look forward to seeing you there as we capture the next breathtaking story together.
